Expansion: West Loop Transportation Center

The City of Chicago has proposed a multi-level transportation center under Canal St. It would perform the following functions:

1) Join Union Station and the Ogilvie terminal into a single facility.

2) Create a direct connection to the CTA "L" network.

3) Establish a new right-of-way for light rail or bus rapid transit.

4) Add through capacity for Amtrak and Metra trains.

The new connectivity would create exciting options for work and leisure travel. For example, it would link south Cook County residents to DuPage County job centers.

Also, trains from Indiana, Michigan and downstate Illinois could continue through to O'Hare.
