To meet current and future demand the station needs a dramatic increase in track capacity. The best way to achieve that is by installing through tracks, with which comes the ability to run new suburb to suburb commuter trains and direct access to O'Hare.

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to achieve the needed capacity enhancements within the confines of the existing buildings. A new concourse building is needed.

We have developed a sketch plan for how the needed changes may be accomplished. It is a concept proposal that needs further study. The City of Chicago is currently looking at this and other options.
