The challenges at Union Station can be divided into three categories.
Curbside: There simply isn't enough room for all the buses, taxis and personal autos that need to reach the station.
Passenger Facilities: The ticket counters and waiting areas used by Amtrak and Metra are too small for today's crowds.
The passageways are narrow and maze-like. Even frequent visitors express difficulty in navigating the station.
Worse yet: There aren't enough restrooms.
Track Capacity: Union Station has reached capacity during rush hours. That means that no new trains can be added for Midwestern travelers seeking to spend an entire business day in Chicago.
Next: How did it get this bad?
